Score 17.5/20 · Drink 2024-2035, Walter Speller, jancisrobinson.com, Nov 2019

Sangiovese and Merlot with an average yield of 30 hl/ha and fermented in stainless steel with a total skin maceration of four weeks. The wine went through MLF in oak barriques, of which 85% were new and 15% second passage and in which it was aged for 24 months. Impenetrable crimson. Deep nose of crushed black forest fruit and sour cherry with an impressive layer of sweet oak. Abundance of fruit and oak is neatly tempered by plentiful acidity and long, powdery tannins. Definitely internationally styled but sleek and stylish. I imagine this could do with another five years before all the components are integrated. Amazingly balanced and its 15% alcohol doesn’t show. A ripe but suggestive nose of dark cherries, dark chocolate, hot stones, cassis, brambleberry pie and bark. Yet, on the palate, this paints an altogether different picture, in which sleek tannins carry fresh layers of forest fruit long, through a compact, full-bodied palate. Powerful acidity steers it through to a restrained but chewy finish. Drink from 2024.
