Brick red. Spicy undergrowth and brown-edged fruit. Smells almost nutty. The extra time in bottle has started to round out the still-dry tannins and the wine is starting to show succulence in its maturity. Complex and savoury. Long but not particularly fragrant. Mature muscle. (JH)

The 2015 Barolo Sarmassa offers thick concentration with dark fruit, dried cherry and blackberry, all followed by oak spice and campfire ash. This is a sour and lean expression of Nebbiolo with medium dimension and texture. The wine has an interesting, albeit straightforward and honest approach.
Barolo. Tasted blind. Mid ruby. Concentrated yet fresh cherry nose. Supple, concentrated and powerfully structured yet perfectly aligned with the ripe fruit. Gorgeous balance, vibrancy and grip. (WS)
Brezza's 2015 Barolo Sarmassa is dense, powerful and quite alluring. The tannins need time to soften, but a core of dense fruit lies behind all of the structural intensity that is present today, and is only waiting for the right time to emerge fully. Menthol, new leather and spice fill out the wine's ample frame effortlessly. There is plenty to look forward to. In this range, the Sarmassa shows a good deal of persistence and fine overall balance.
