Bright magenta. An expressive, highly perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red and blue fruits, candied violet and smoked meat, along with smoky mineral and Indian spice nuances. Concentrated, seamless and alluringly sweet, offering juicy, mineral-accented black raspberry, boysenberry and violet pastille flavors and a zesty white pepper quality that builds on the back half. Finishes with excellent focus and tenacity, leaving an echo of sappy dark berries behind.

45-year-old vines on granite and sandy soils, in conversion to organics. Aged in old burgundy barrels. Unfiltered. Minimal sulphur addition. Mid cherry red. Dark fruited and a touch meaty. A meaty sweetness on the palate too. Chewy enough to get your teeth into. Full in the mouth, generous and bags of character. Is there a touch of brett or just a lightly meaty character? If there is, it does not intrude but it might reduce its ageing potential. (JH)

The 2015 Regnie, which was converted to organic in 2014, does not quite possess the refinement of the Morgon on the nose, though it is still very attractive with raspberry and wild strawberry, hints of cooked meat in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, crisp and taut with a keen line of acidity and fine tension on the shimmering finish. Overall, the Regnie actually might have the edge over the Morgon thanks to its freshness and it is one of those wines that the longer you remain in its presence, the more you warm to its charm. It might be one of Antoine's best wines thus far.
