Even better from bottle than it was from barrel, the 2018 Doisy-Daëne L'Extravagant is a total showstopper. Readers will find a heady, exotic Barsac that captivates all the senses. Coconut cake, pineapple, marzipan, orange confit and chamomile all flesh out in the glass. L'Extravagant is a rich, unctuous Barsac, but that flamboyant character is nicely balanced by its lifted aromatics and feeling of phenolic intensity that gives the wine shape and energy. As it so often is, L'Extravagant is absolutely exquisite.
The 2018 Doisy-Daëne L'Extravagant is one of the most flamboyant, rich wines of the vintage, as is so often the case. Pineapple, passionfruit, apricot jam, wild flowers and lightly honeyed notes build in an unctuous, richly textured Barsac that will thrill readers lucky enough to own it. L'Extravagant is once again distinct, compelling and impossible to resist.
The 2018 L'Extravagant has a pale to medium lemon-gold color. WOW—the nose is super intense, featuring notes of lime cordial, orange peel, pink grapefruit and guava plus touches of chalk dust, lime leaves and acacia honey. Incredibly rich, sweet and hedonic in the mouth, the wonderfully oily palate reveals fantastic freshness and epic length.
About the producer

This Second Growth estate has origins dating back to the late 1800s. It is, however, under the ownership of the Dubourdieu family – who took over the Barsac property in 1924 – that Ch. Doisy-Daëne truly flourished.
