Tasting notes
The 2018 Ermitage Blanc Le Méal begins with attractive flintstone, candle wax, lemon peel, golden apple and dried flower aromas. Dried ginger adds another aromatic layer. Perfumed and complex, the full-bodied 2018 is an outstanding Le Méal, powerful, round and concentrated. It signs off with persistent cadence and flinty backdrops on the expansive finish.

Tasted next to a 2018 Guigal Ex Voto Blanc, the 2018 Ermitage Le Méal Blanc is more focused and linear, with a beautiful sense of minerality in its honeyed orange, acacia flower, spice, and crushed stone-driven aromatics. Full-bodied, concentrated, and beautifully focused on the palate, with a good sense of freshness as well as purity, it's still a baby and is going to benefit from another 3-5 years of bottle age.
Is le Méal the most complex and complete lieu-dit on Hermitage, when considering both red and white wines? The 2018 Ermitage le Méal Blanc certainly makes a case for the white, offering honeyed, complex notes of mixed citrus, pineapple, pear and melon, structural notes of crushed stone, ample weight and richness on the palate and a long, vibrant finish. Just terrific.
