Tasting notes
Planted in 2008 to Montrachet clone, the 2017 Chardonnay CIX Estate is so delightfully savory, you could make a whole meal of it! It opens with bags of praline, pain grille, allspice and dill seed notions over a core of baked apples, pear tart, aniseed and lime leaves plus a touch of sea spray. Full-bodied, the palate has fantastic texture with a little chewy grip countering the slight oiliness and supporting the savory layers beautifully, finishing long and refreshing. Man, I just personally love the style of this wine!

The 2017 Chardonnay CIX Vineyard is unctuous and flamboyant, with a real sense of oiliness and viscosity that is its calling card. Lemon confit, apricot, baked apple, chamomile and lightly tropical notes all fill out the layers effortlessly. I would be in no rush to drink the 2017 soon, despite its considerable immediacy. There is so much to like here.
About the producer

The Aubert wines, particularly the Chardonnay, have a cult following – beloved for their rich, hedonistic style. Created by Mark and Theresa Aubert in 1999, the property makes some of California’s most sought-after Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, all from single vineyards across Sonoma.
