Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, the 2014 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru from Jacques Carillon demonstrated a little more oak on the nose compared to the other three alongside. However, it is neatly sutured into the citrus fruit with hints of white peach emerging with time. The palate is well balanced with vibrant acidity and superb saline notes that really flourish toward the finish, not unlike some of the 2014 Les Caillerets tasted in a previous flight. This has immense potential. Très grand cru and très bienvenue.

Pale yellow. Aromas of orange zest, pineapple and pungent minerality. At once broad and piercing, with a strong acid edge (4.6 grams per liter) to its upright flavors of mandarin orange and crushed rock. This very pure, backward wine finishes long and uncompromisingly dry, in need of serious patience.
(13.2% potential alcohol chaptalized to 13.6%): Pale hazy yellow. Slightly high-toned aromas of mirabelle , citrus fruits, menthol and brown spices. Dense and rather robust but nicely delineated too, with ripe pineapple and mirabelle flavors framed by sound acidity and supported by a stony underpinning. Finishes with excellent length and considerable power. The acidity here is 4.6 grams per liter, the highest in the cellar in 2014, as it usually is. Carillon has just 1-1/2 barrels of this juice in 2014, one of them new; he uses barely 20% new oak for his premier crus. (Carillon's very concentrated 2014 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts was impossible to assess with confidence in the final stage of its malolactic fermentation.)
