Marco Marengo's 2013 Barolo sees fruit sourced from four vineyards located in the La Morra township. These are Serradenari, Fossati, Boiolo and Roncaglie. Fruit is harvested, fermented separately and assembled later in order to preserve the subtle characteristics of each site. The 2013 Barolo is powerful, dense and sweet, with plenty of succulent red fruit, herb, spice and floral notes. I would prefer to drink it over the next few years, before the slightly vegetal notes that lurk beneath become more apparent than they are today. The 2013 offers only modest depth and complexity in its peer group.
