Pale yellow with gold highlights. Wild, musky scents of apple, yellow peach, hazelnut and spicy oak. Supple and rich but with surprising high-altitude limey acidity framing the flavors of orange oil, lemon, flowers and spices. The note of peach oil carries through the wine's chewy finish. Surprisingly dense but a tad youthfully edgy, this wine too will be better for a bit of patience.

The 2016 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Hameau de Blagny has a more convincing bouquet than the Champ Gain at this stage, demonstrating better harmony and more lifted green apple and blackcurrant leaf notes. The palate is very well balanced with orange pith and citrus lemon on the entry. This builds nicely in the mouth and the finish exhibits fine cohesion and sappiness. This is a very commendable, delicious follow-up to the impressive 2015 last year.
(12.8% natural alcohol; from very old vines in a sunny spot protected from wind): Pale, bright yellow. Aromas of fresh apple and leesy hazelnut, plus a suggestion of dried fruits; smells concentrated. A step up in density of texture from the Garenne, with dried fruit and mineral flavors combining fleshiness and good thrust. This chewy, saline premier cru finishes classically dry, with very good subtle length.
