Brilliant violet. Intense cherry and boysenberry aromas are brightened by suggestions of smoky minerals, peppery spices and pungent flowers. Fleshy but impressively lively on the palate, offering spice-accented dark berry and violet pastille flavors and a touch of candied licorice. Juicy, sharply focused and gently sweet on the impressively persistent finish, which features fine-grained tannins and resonating florality.

The 2015 Saint Joseph Terre Blanche comes from slightly older vines and granite/white clay soils. It has more tension and vibrancy compared to the more opulent Chatelet cuvée, with terrific notes of black raspberries, dried herbs, chalky minerality, and assorted spices. Medium to full-bodied, balanced, backward, and structured, give bottles 3-4 years and enjoy over the following decade. This label(s) is a collaboration between Jean-Pierre Monier and Philippe Perréol. The wines are all completely destemmed, fermented in concrete egg-shaped tanks, and aged in larger oak. I was only able to taste three wines from this duo, but there are three different labels depending on the vineyard: Domaine Monier, Domaine Perréol, and Domaine Monier-Perréol.
