2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Lotus Vineyards

Tasting notes
The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Lotus Vineyard is the most open-knit of the three Dana Cabernets in this vintage. The aromatics are quite generous, with plenty of cedar, pipe tobacco and spice notes that lift from the glass. On the palate, the 2015 is a bit tighter, but that should help it to continue age gracefully. Like all the 2015s, the Lotus shows a touch more oak imprint than is the norm today. It's a total pleasure bomb.

Lastly, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Lotus Vineyard from the base of Howell Mountain is 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot that spent over two years in 90% new barrels. It’s a ripe, sexy wine that has a huge nose of crème de cassis, blueberry liqueur, crushed rocks, and liquid violet characteristics as well as obvious minerality and earth. Deep, full-bodied, and incredibly powerful on the palate, it’s one of those “iron fist in a velvet glove” wines that marries massive depth of fruit with serious amounts of structure. This totally thrilling, world-class effort is going to last for 3-4 decades.
The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Lotus Vineyard is positively stunning. Aromatically broad and expansive, with tremendous depth, the Lotus is simply magnificent today. Sweet tobacco, spice, cedar, sweet red cherry and mint are some of the many notes that open up in the glass. Above all else, though, I am blown away by the wine's textural resonance, volume and extraordinary balance. The 2015 is racy, exotic and absolutely irresistible. What a wine!
The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Lotus Vineyard is the only 2015 at Dana that is still in barrel. Rich and creamy, the 2015 hits all the right notes while capturing the essence of this St. Helena vineyard. The natural richness and intensity of this site comes through loud and clear in the wine's sumptuous fruit. The 2015 will be bottled during the first week of January, 2018.
