Dense créme brulée and forest honey character here, rich and powerful, but thanks to the rather soft acidity it comes off a tad heavy (though not too sweet). Drink now.

Tasted blind at the château, the 1927 Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey is a magnificent Sauternes that belies its age. It has a mature Barsac-inspired bouquet with scents of crème brûlée and marmalade, a touch of almond and café latte (the latter noted also on the 1961). The palate is defined by its crisp, tensile acidity and life-affirming tension. This shimmers in the mouth with gorgeous yellow plum and bitter orange on the tangy finish. This is like watching a geriatric do a wheelie on a BMX. Stunning.
