2016 Puligny Montrachet Champs Gains

Bright, light yellow. Slightly flattened aromas of pear, peach and menthol. A rather round, soft style of 2016, without quite the energy or mineral lift of the Saint-Aubin Les Murgers des Dents de Chien. This, too, seems somewhat blocked by reduction. Finishes a bit warm and blurry. I'd give this wine some aeration and enjoy it over the next three or four years as it's a bit short on energy and fruit definition.

1.5 ha on white stones with very poor soils. Tank sample. Lots of restrained chalkiness on the nose. Refinement. Real raciness. Polished texture and pronounced definition. Neat. (JR)

From a once-used 350-liter barrel: Ripe peach and spices on the nose and palate. Nicely fruity and sweet in the mouth, with enough intensity to support the slightly aggressive finish. From a once-used 300-liter cigare : Bright yellow. A bit more smoky oak showing today. Fat and smooth on the palate but the finish is a bit dried by the wood element.
