Tasted blind. Mid ruby colour. Slightly muted on the nose. Juicy red fruit. Quite silky on the palate. Medium weight with some real crunch – high acidity cuts through all and adds a slightly leafy edge, but this is not entirely negative. Sinewy on the finish. (TP)

The 2017 Chasse-Spleen has really come together nicely today. From bottle it is bright, vibrant with a good bit of energy and drive. Sweet tobacco, grilled herbs, mint, dried berry and cedar lead into the super expressive finish.

50% Cabernet sauvignon, 41% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc. Deep crimson. Leafy cassis nose. Black fruit and cedary pencil character. Definitely Cab-dominant. On the palate, the tannins are dry and firm but not excessively so. Could do with a little more flesh but the balance is just about there. (JH)

The 2017 Chasse-Spleen is a wine that I encountered two or three times during my tastings. I have a lot of admiration for this property however, every time I found evidence of under-ripeness on the nose that fed through onto the palate, whilst the finish is rather astringent. After great wines in both 2015 and 2016, the 2017 seems compromised by the growing season.
