Score 91/100 · Drink 2024-2040, Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux, Nov 2023

Silky and softly structured with white truffle, blackberry, loganberry, and fine tannins. This lifts gently through the mid palate, unfussy with layers of smoky complexity, and a touch of rose bud, raspberry leaf and smoked earth, suggesting things are skirting full ripeness but skilfully handled and well balanced. Hubert de Bouard consultant, Marjolaine Defrance cellar master. Harvest September 18 to October 5, 35% new oak for ageing.

Tasted blind. Deep ruby. Tobacco and earth on the nose, very savoury yet appetising. Silky entry, good bright red fruit in the middle. There is some ambition here. Medium weight with juicy cherry in the middle that is succulent against savoury notes of bay and sage. The fruit lingers with spice in harmony on the finish. (TP)

The 2017 Siran has turned out beautifully. Dark and rich with tons of nuance, Siran is super expressive in 2017 in the mid-weight style of the vintage. Wild cherry, plum, dried flowers, mint, tobacco and smoke are all laced together in this pretty, inviting Margaux.

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Siran features pure cassis, crushed black plums and black cherries with hints of black olives, lavender and fragrant earth. The palate is medium-bodied, firm and grainy with a muscular core and good length.

In the south of Margaux, this property has 36 hectares of vines. There’s an unusually large proportion of Petit Verdot (13%) in the vineyard, something which the team feels adds finesse, concentration and a spicy finish to the wine.
