The 2017 Les Gravières is fabulous. Rich, dense and explosive, the 2017 possesses off-the-charts intensity and exceptional balance. A rush of dark raspberry jam, mocha, licorice, spice and menthol builds into the powerful finish. Rich, ample and full-bodied, Les Gravières is one of the real sleepers of the vintage. I loved it.

Made from 100% Merlot, the 2017 Les Gravieres has a deep garnet-purple color and leaps from the glass with warm blackberries, fresh black and red plums and cedar chest scents plus hints of raspberries and rosehip tea with a waft of new leather. Medium-bodied, the palate delivers loads of muscular red and black fruits with a firm, chewy texture and earthy finish.
The 2017 Les Gravières has a tightly packed nose of blackberry and briary, not quite delivering the same delineation as its peers. The palate is quite structured with veins of dark chocolate infusing the black fruit. It just misses a little flair but perhaps bottle age will benefit this Saint-Émilion? A second bottle comes across tougher than the first.
