Diam closure. Tasted blind. Pale lemon colour. Crisp green apples and lemon rind on the nose. A hint of more-tropical papaya too. Tropical flesh on the palate, ripe mandarin and pomegranate. A glob of juice, layered with quite toasty but integrated spice on the back end. Forward. (TP)

The 2017 Carbonnieux is dark and intense in the glass. Swaths of tannin wrap around a core of dark fruit in this decidedly potent, Pessac-Léognan. Orange peel, incense, spice, sweet tobacco and cedar add a super appealing exotic flair as the 2017 builds with time in the glass. Another few years in bottle should help things come together even more fully.
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Carbonnieux is closed and broody on the nose with tar and herbs scents over black cherries, mulberries and plum preserves plus a waft of garrigue. The medium-bodied palate is simple, chewy and a bit lean.
About the producer
This estate is one of Bordeaux’s oldest, with vines planted here since at least the 13th century. Over three generations, the Perrin family has completely renovated the estate and raised quality here significantly.
