The 2017 Domaine de L'Aurage has developed well with élevage. There is good freshness and energy, but the slightly green, vegetal notes this wine has shown in the past remain. I would prefer to drink the 2017 sooner rather than later, while the fruit remains vibrant.

The 2017 L’Aurage has a very Burgundian bouquet with ample raspberry and wild strawberry fruit, the oak seamlessly entwined. The palate has a slightly powdery texture, with notes of mulberry and a pinch of white pepper. Focused, with a precise and tender finish. This is a splendid Côtes de Castillon from the Mitjavile family.

Coming from the Castillon region located east of Saint-Emilion, the 2017 Domaine De L'Aurage is a rocking wine that’s well worth seeking out. Based on 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, this full-bodied effort has complex cassis, violets, and floral aromatics, medium to full body, subtle oak, ultra-fine tannins, and a great finish. While it has plenty of richness and texture, it’s the sense of purity and elegance that sets this apart. Drink it over the coming decade or more.

The 2017 l’Aurage from deep clay soils in the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux and courtesy of the Mitjavile family, offers mulberry, red plum and a hint of marmalade and apricot jelly on the nose, very expressive with touches of liquorice developing in the glass. The palate is well balanced with grainy tannin, a little savory on the entry with fennel and sage notes, pretty red berry fruit with white pepper and sage again towards the finish. This should give several years of pleasure.
