The 2016 Pommard Clos Blanc 1er Cru displays noticeable new oak on the nose but it seems neatly integrated with the plush purple fruit behind it. The palate is medium-bodied with toasty ripe tannin, the oak obscuring the terroir expression so that it feels a little generic towards the finish. Could be going through a dumb phase so keep any bottles for now. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. (DIAM 10 closure)

The 2017 Pommard Clos Blanc has a pure, detailed bouquet with blueberry, cassis and crushed violets. My problem with this cru is that I feel the palate is a little over-egged and just seems too sweet on the finish. At the moment I just prefer the Les Perrières but let's see how they age.

Very dark crimson. Quite severe chestnut aromas – pretty typical youthful Pommard! Sit on this and you may well be rewarded. (JR)
