Located on the Montagne de Py in the centre of Morgon, seventh generation vigneron Louis-Claude Desvignes has handed over the day to day running of the property to his daughter Claude Emmanuelle. She harvests later than other vignerons in the appellation with the intention of obtaining fruit of optimal ripeness. The wine is vinified by the traditional cru beaujolais method with a grille to keep the cap submerged. Fermentation has been longer and more controlled than in the past, in order to extract deeper colour and depth. Bright garnet. Fresh and racy but with no shortage of fruit and massively dry and stony on the end. Probably needs even a bit more time. Very classical vintage. (JR)

Domaine Louis-Claude Desvignes is now run by brother and sister Louis-Benoît and Claude-Emmanuelle Desvignes. Combining the traditional winemaking of their father and their own youthful enthusiasm for organic viticulture, they are successfully combining the old guard and the new wave of Beaujolais. From 70-year-old vines on the relatively sandy soils of Douby, the grapes were 80% destemmed before a careful sorting to remove any hail-damaged berries. Fermentation is semi carbonic in concrete tanks with a six- to nine-month ageing period in tank before bottling. Bright blueish crimson. Light but racy nose. Lots of juice and pace. Rather suave. Could be drunk already but it probably shouldn’t be. (JR)

Limpid ruby-red. Intense aromas of fresh red berries, smoky minerals and pungent flowers, accompanied by a slowly emerging spicy element. Juicy and seamless in texture, offering concentrated yet lithe raspberry and boysenberry flavors and a subtle hint of candied lavender. Finishes sappy, appealingly sweet and very long; silky tannins arrive late and lend shape and gentle grip.
