Score 94.5/100 · Drink 2022-2034, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2018

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Les Pavots is striking, but it is also going to need at least a few years to come into its own, as it is presently very tightly wound and reticent. Grilled herb, smoke, tobacco, licorice, game and incense overtones give the bouquet tons of depth. On the palate, though, the wine is quite a bit less forthcoming. Readers will have to be patient. In 2014, Les Pavots is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Cabernet Franc, 13% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot.

800-1400 ft (244-427 m). Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot are planted higher. Merlot at the bottom. 64 acres (26 ha) of vineyard in total. About 3,000 cases made. Very rocky, very white and some volcanic ash. Faces south in a bowl. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22%% Cabernet Franc, 13% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot. Relatively low Cabernet Sauvignon this year. Wild yeast, no acid adjustment. Deep crimson. Complex nose with some tobacco notes. Quite rich and beefy. Lots of potential. A little bit of heat. Bigger than the 2014. (JR)

Incredible aromas of pine tree, mineral, cigar box and tobacco leaf but then it turns to currants and black truffle. Forest fruit and forest floor. Soya. Full body, round and decadent with a combination of ripe fruit and earth, spice and long finish. The uniqueness of Pavot is streaming here. Drink or hold.
