You feel the depth and complexity even in the aromatics, which combine punchy damson and blackberry fruits with chocolate and truffle nuances. There are big tannins here, and the density and concentration is going the distance. Violet reflections on the rim when you catch it in the right light, with a jewel-ruby core. Slate-scraping limestone texture gives juice and lift, and holds you in the flavours, with mandarin and osyter shell shivers on the finish. Love this, but if you are going for it any time soon, make sure you carafe. 30% new oak for ageing, organic farming, and working biodyamically also from this vintage.

The 2014 Château Rocheyron, the property owned by Peter Sisseck and Silvio Denz in Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes, is a blend of 94% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc matured in 35% new oak and a modest 13.4% alcohol. It has a backward bouquet at first that gradually opens in the glass with blackberry and cranberry fruit, expressing fine mineral tension and a hint of Chinese five spice. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly furry tannin, but impressive depth and excellent balance. The acidity is finely tuned here, lending this a linearity and focus not seen in Rocheyron's first three vintages, and then it gently fans out towards the finish with hints of cedar and smoke lingering on the aftertaste. This comes highly recommended—one of the best vintages thus far.

The 2014 Rocheyron is a soft, supple wine to drink now and over the next few years. Bright red cherry, anise and sweet floral notes, along with a touch of oak, add to the wine's inviting personality. There is plenty of depth to the dark, sumptuous flavors in this expressive Saint-Émilion.
