Tasting notes
A charming, exquisite Champagne, the 2012 Brut Premier Cru Grand Cellier d'Or evokes aromas of pear, white peach, spring blossom, pastry and praline. It has a medium to full-bodied, round and enrobing palate with good depth at the core and bright acids, concluding with a long, ethereal and racy finish. It could age another 10 years with grace.

The 2013 Cuvée Grand Cellier d'Or shows the layered, vertical construction that is so typical of this wine. Deceptively medium in body, the 2013 is subtle and yet wonderfully complex. There is an airy, weightless quality to the 2013 that is impossible to miss. At the same time, all the layers of complexity and structure are present, they just speak in hushed tones. Citrus, floral and mineral notes are some of the signatures, but the Cellier d’Or is mostly a wine of textural finesse and nuance. Disgorged June 2017. Dosage is 7 grams per liter.
Vilmart’s 2012 Grand Cellier d’Or is bold, racy and seductive, with all of the radiance of the vintage very much in evidence. Lemon confit, jasmine, vanillin, herbs and dried flowers are all pushed forward. Expressive and inviting, the 2012 will drink well with minimal cellaring. Even so, my impression is that the 2012 will be a bit more giving with further time in bottle. Dosage is 8 grams per liter. Disgorged June 2016.
