The 2015 Morgon Vieilles Vignes is also showing a touch of reduction, but it dissipates with air, revealing a lovely bouquet of rich dark fruits, grilled meats and dried flowers. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, powerful and fleshy, with firm structuring tannins and a somewhat roasted profile. How much you like this wine will depend on your tolerance for the vintage’s torrefied qualities, but it’s a more than creditable example of the genre.

Vibrant ruby. Smoky, mineral-tinged red and blue fruit and floral pastille scents, along with hints of cracked pepper and licorice. Sappy, appealingly sweet black raspberry and blueberry flavors smoothly blend power and finesse and pick up a smoky nuance as the wine opens up. Closes very long and pliant, offering building tannins and an echo of ripe blue fruit.
The 2015 Morgon was showing just a little too much richness on the nose and too many prune-like notes that occlude the terroir expression. The palate is fresh on the entry: quite solid and with good body, although it is missing some finesse and complexity on the stocky finish. Hmm...I must admit I was expecting more.
