Score 85/100 · Drink 2020-2025, Neal Martin, Aug 2020

The 2016 Haut-Bergey has a well-defined bouquet of blackberry, briar and sous-bois aromas, just a hint of mushroom developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly jarring peppery entry, rather hard tannins and a somewhat austere finish. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Now biodynamic. Tasted blind. Deep honeyed gold. Heavy and sweet with a heavy, foot-dragging nose. Too ripe and not enough freshness. (JR)

A silky and delicious wine now with very fine tannins, medium body and berry, wet-earth, lavender and currant character. Drink now or hold.
