The 2016 Guiraud does not quite have the complexity and delineation of the best Sauternes in the flight, with scents of dried honey, lanolin and beeswax emerging. The palate has decent weight, clean and pure, lightly spiced, with cough candy, ginger and marmalade developing on the finish. This appears to be maturing well in bottle and it certainly meliorates with aeration. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.

The 2016 Guiraud has a very attractive, complex bouquet of lemon curd, orange blossom and light lanolin aromas that gently unfold in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with a spicy opening. This feels concentrated and harmonious, delivering good grip and a tangy marmalade-driven finish that begs you back for another sip. Excellent. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.
Tasted blind. Pungent and lemon acid drops on the nose. Round and sweet though without quite enough botrytis subtlety. May come together but it’s a bit febrile currently. (JR)
65% Sémillon, 35% Sauvignon Blanc. Clean and fresh with a real line of ripe botrytis fruit. Lots of weight – no attempt at slimness. Complex. Quite a lot to chew on. (JR)
