Magnum. Takes the place of the magnum of Lanessan 2012 I recommended earlier. Back labels are giving more and more information. This is barrique-aged 49% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Cabernet Franc. Firm, just ready to drink and an upright rather than luscious Médoc. No hurry to drink this but so long as it's not too cool, it should find favour. Very pure, clean and fresh. No obvious oak or sweetness. You could buy this for next Christmas, too (the price is likely only to go up). (JR)

The ruby/purple-hued 2016 Château Citran is an outstanding Haut-Médoc boasting loads of red and black fruits, notes of underbrush and graphite, medium to full body, and a balanced, elegant texture that’s very much in the style of the vintage. It’s a hidden gem and, I suspect, a great value.
The 2016 Citran has a classic tobacco-scented bouquet that is quite austere at first but opens up with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, not complex but offering fine salinity toward the finish, which just needs a little more mineralité and detail.
