The 2016 Lamothe-Guignard has a more reductive, petrolly bouquet, opening nicely in the glass with lychee, wild honey and beeswax scents. The palate is well balanced, with good weight and summer levels of botrytis, though it misses some complexity towards the finish. As such, I would drink this now and not later. The 2016 Lamothe-Guignard has a very primal nose that lacks real complexity. The palate is viscous on the entry, offering tangy marmalade and lemongrass notes and touches of lemon curd toward the rather undernourished finish, which needs more grip and substance. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

The pale lemon-gold colored 2016 Lamothe-Guignard features bold honeydew melon, green guava and warm peach scents with touches of nutmeg, honey-coated nuts, orange marmalade and fungi. The palate reveals great concentration and depth with loads of tropical and honeyed layers, finishing with a refreshing lift.
