Tasting notes
Fairly low alcohol for the vintage, this retains a vibrant plum colour, slight pinking on the edges as heads towards the first tertiary notes. Enjoyable, ready to drink, a little soft through the mid palate, focusing on red cherry, raspberry, roasted almond, lemongrass and smoked earth, unfussy but with punch. This is a good wine, a little underwhelming in the context of the vintage.

The 2016 Laffitte-Carcasset feels a little ham-fisted on the nose compared to its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with quite supple tannin, well balanced with fine acidity. Almost Stellenbosch-like on the finish with hints of liquorice and fynbos coming through with aeration. Fine. Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London.
60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc. Charred wood gives a smoky overlay to the black fruit. Smooth, succulent balance. Bright acidic freshness on the finish. Very classic, albeit in a rather simple structure. (RH)
Mid crimson. Luscious, mildly gamey nose. Not very St-Estèphe! Just a little mean on the palate. All on the nose and then it goes grainy and light. (JR)
