Drink 2020-2035, Vinfolio, May 2017

Intensely coloured and vibrant on the nose, perfumed with a hint of violet. On the palate the freshness and drive are the simply staggering and then supported by massive but perfectly ripe and silky-smooth tannin and a rich and very intense core of dark fruit. There is exceptional balance and a lovely sense of harmony that is very evident on the long and very persistent finish that reveals wave after wave of flavour. Excellent.

Very gravelly parcel in Ch Lescours with 70% Merlot plus five more varieties. Very rich and sweet and very flattering. Rather salty end and very pronounced. More stones than fruit. (JR)

The 2016 L'Eveche was picked from the beginning of October until the end of November, like the 2015, based on around 70% Merlot and five other grape varieties including Petit Verdot and Carmenere. It has a clean, straightforward bouquet with blackberry, briary and a light estuarine influence (which might not be a surprise given that the vines are close to the Dordogne River). The palate is medium-bodied with a touch of soy on the entry, moderate depth with a slight bitterness towards the finish. Not bad, although I probably prefer the 2015 when I tasted it at the same juncture last year.
