The outstanding 2016 Château Picque Caillou reveals a deep ruby/purple color as well as a classy, medium-bodied, elegant style. Notes of cassis, spring flowers, and graphite, with a touch of minerality, all define the bouquet, and it’s already drinking nicely. Enjoy bottles over the coming decade or so.

Sweet-tobacco aromas with some red fruit and cherries. Medium body, round and velvety tannins and a delicious, ripe-fruit finish. In balance. Drink after 2022.
Limey citrus nose. Very tight and almost lean but finely fresh and would be great with plainish fish and seafood. A slight chalkiness in the texture, tight, mouth-watering rather than intense. (JH)
Light and green and adequate but without real conviction or central drive. Off-dry lemon juice. Some length. (JR)
About the producer
Neighbouring Haut-Brion and Pape Clément, this estate has been turned around since Paulin Calvet took over in 2007. Working with the legendary late Denis Dubourdieu and Valérie Lavigne, results have been impressive.
