The 2016 Bouscaut has a classically styled nose, which is exactly what I want, except that, returning after five minutes, it seems oxidised. The palate is medium-bodied with a peppery entry, lively with gentle grip, not long, but there is decent weight and grip. Lovely. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.

Grilled cedar oak dominates at first, and the fruit struggles a little, but as it opens you find delicious freshly cut rosemary and sage heabs, espresso, cocoa bean, and crushed rock mineraity. Plenty of power and intensity, needs longer to soften up. 40% new oak for ageing.

The 2016 Bouscaut has a very attractive bouquet of blackberry, bilberry, fresh mint, cigar box and light stony aromas; the new oak is nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. This feels velvety-smooth, leading into a caressing finish. I appreciate the discreet crescendo of this Pessac-Léognan. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

45% Sémillon. Tasted blind. Rich and layered and interesting (for the first time virtually in this flight). Maybe a little residual sugar but there is good balance. GV (JR)
