Attractive, ripe dark and red-berry aromas, dressed in cedary, fresh wood. The palate delivers a superb, succulent array of assertive, dense but ripe tannins. The finish has taut, appealing snap. Try from 2022.

The 2016 Mongravey has a slightly reduced bouquet but there seems to be decent black fruit behind it. The palate is medium-bodied with peppery red berry fruit, perhaps just missing a little ripeness towards the finish. Give this wine a year. Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London.

65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc. Black core with purple rim. Deliciously fragrant, the cassis having a light herbaceous note of cassis leaf. Incredibly fine tannins, like layers of paper. Juicy if not terribly persistent or intense. (JH)

Very dark crimson. Attractively dusty nose. Then very juicy on the palate. Fairly forward. (JR)
