Tasted at the winery alongside the 2023 Rossos, the 2015 Rosso Di Montalcino pours a brick red color and is ripe and generous with more mature aromas of baked cherries, leather, and balsamic herbs. The palate has come together nicely and is prime for drinking now. It has an integrated feel and a clean and ripe finish. It is very well styled and drinking well now. Based in Castelnuova dell'Abate, Andrea Cortonesi leads his family estate, as well as their more recent wines of Voliero, which can also found in this report.

Medicinal black cherry, confectionary spice and sweet herbs make for an utterly irresistible display on the 2015 Rosso di Montalcino. It’s silky in feel yet with a primal intensity to its red and black fruits, as saline-minerality saturates, creating a more savory expression. The palate aches with cheek-puckering tension throughout the long finish, but with an air of inner rose that holds your attention firm. While there’s still plenty of balance to be found within, drink the 2015 over the next year or two.

Concentrated ruby with orange tinges. Subdued but with a brooding concentration underneath. Cherry and dark tea leaf notes. Generous mouthful of tangy cherry fruit kept in check by lots of chewy tannins. Long and supple. (WS)

Light cherry red. Soft and sweet cherry fruit on the nose. This is lovely for a Rosso, has great fruit but is not simply fruity thanks to a depth and spice on the mid palate, a richness without loss of freshness. The tannins are still quite firm but rounded and spicy. (JH)
