Tasting notes
Deep garnet in color, the 2013 Maya comes barreling out with bold notes of blueberry pie and creme de cassis followed by hints of chocolate mint, beef bouillon, and cumin seed. The medium to full-bodied palate is tightly wound with mineral-laced black fruit layers framed by very ripe, firm, finely grained tannins and impressive tension, finishing long and ferrous. Wow - this still has many, many years ahead of it!

The 2013 Maya is a bit more expressive today than the Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep, plush and vertical in its shape, the 2013 exudes intensity and pure power from start to finish. The Maya is another wine that will require considerable patience. Hints of black cherry, bittersweet chocolate, cloves, leather and scorched earth give the 2013 much of its brooding, powerful personality, but readers will have to give the 2013 at least a few years in barrel for it to be at its best.
