With long maceration times (up to 40 days), the wines of Giacomo Fenocchio show power and opulence across this set of new releases. The 2013 Barolo Castellero is one of the most expressive of the bunch. The wine shows a higher degree of ripeness with red and darkly saturated fruit flavors. There is even a touch of sweetness here to back up that thesis. This is the most accessible and immediate of the estate's single-vineyard expressions. This is a good near-term option to drinking within the next ten years.
Barolo. Cask sample. Tasted blind. Mid ruby with the beginning of orange tinges. Almost rich cherry fruit on the nose. Supple and mellow with just a medium-weight feel. Grainy tannins on the finish, and already approachable. (WS)
