A little more leafy and cedary than the 2005 or 2006. Cooler in August but good September and October, and a late harvest. ‘Very classic.’ Quite austere and really not very expressive yet. Leaner and pretty dry. (JH)

Le Piane's 2004 Boca emerges from the glass with sweet scents of tobacco, earthiness, spices, dried cherries and herbs in a mid-weight, ethereal style. The tannins are silky and finessed through to the long, generous finish. This pretty, if eccentric Boca is Nebbiolo, Vespolina and Bonarda aged in cask from one of Piedmont's tiny northern appellations.
