Transparent garnet. Light but well-balanced, well-integrated nose. Followed up by decent fruit on the palate with some energy and lift. Respectable if not exactly thrilling. (JR)

The 2014 Baron de Brane displays scents of brambly red berry fruit, mocha and hints of espresso on the well-defined nose. The medium-bodied palate offers fine tannin and a straightforward, tobacco-tinged and lightly spiced finish. The most elegant Baron de Brane in recent years. Fine. Tasted at the Brane-Cantenac vertical at the château .
Expressive toasty characters on the nose, with an almost burnt character to the black fruit. Medium body and intensity. The posh oak treatment can’t hide the relative simplicity of the fruit on the palate. (RH)
About the producer
Château Brane-Cantenac has been a consistent performer in the Margaux wine appellation since Henri Lurton took over the property, but thanks to replanting and investment in the last decade, quality has seen another sharp upswing.
