The 2015 Meursault Genevrières 1er Cru has a more tropically inclined bouquet compared to its peers, featuring mango and guava, and lacking the terroir expression one would have hoped for. The palate is rounded, with low acidity, heavy oak and a slightly vanilla-y finish, rendering this a nondescript Genevrières. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2015 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières reveals a pretty nose of fresh pear, herbs, macadamia nut and vanilla pod. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, glossy and fresh; quite structurally open-knit and missing some depth, but concluding with an attractively chalky finish. This should offer plenty of near-term appeal.

Pale, bright yellow. Musky aromas of lemon zest, lime, spices and minerals; a step up in energy from the preceding wines and higher-pitched. Penetrating, citrussy wine with brisk supporting mineral spine energizing the middle palate and extending the firm, rising finish. Delivers a lovely combination of density and pliancy but is still a bit compressed in the early going. Finishes fresh and quite long. Really lovely fruit here, as well as enough saline minerality and brisk acidity for mid-term aging. This premier cru nicely avoids the excesses of the year.
