Tasting notes
(made entirely from marsanne): Vivid gold. Ripe pear and melon aromas are complemented by notes of honey, fresh bay and orange pith. Rich and lively, offering intense orchard fruit flavors and suave herb and spice nuances. Closes with power and length, on a peach nectar note. Quite substantial, and built to handle the richest, most buttery dishes or strong cheeses.

Even better is the 2011 St.-Peray Lieu-Dit Peyrolles, a single vineyard offering revealing plenty of powdered rock, nectarine, buttered citrus and honeysuckle characteristics. Think of this full-bodied, ripe, impressive St.-Peray as a grand cru Chablis from the Northern Rhone! In partnership with the Pic family, of three-star restaurant fame, Michel Chapoutier has produced two cuvees of St.-Peray, both made from 100% Marsanne. Dec 2012, www.erobertparker.com
