A dark, inviting wine, the 2012 Enclos Tourmaline is beguiling from the first taste. Dark cherry, plum, smoke, leather and spice open up in an ample, dense Pomerol with more than enough depth to drink well for a number of years. This is a decidedly modern, ripe style, and the new oak needs time to settle down, yet there is plenty to like. Enclos Tourmalin, the flagship wine of Peter Kwok's Chateau La Patache property, is a pure Merlot done in 100% new French oak. Michel Rolland is the consulting winemaker. This is without question a strong showing for a wine that appears to have a bright future.

Not a Pomerol I am familiar with, it certainly acquitted itself in my tastings of 2012s. Deep ruby/purple, with dense black cherry and blackcurrant fruit, licorice and mocha, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ripe, opulent and surprisingly good.

About the producer
Enclos Tourmaline is a single one-hectare plot situated on the Pomerol plateau next to Château Clinet and Château Feytit-Clinet. Before being bought by Peter Kwok in 2012, the vineyard was part of the Château La Patache property.
