Score 87/100 · Drink 2018-2023, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Feb 2018

The 2015 Cantelys is a pleasantly rustic, powerful wine to drink now and over the next few years. Grilled herbs, leather, dark fruit and smoke add aromatic nuance to this Cabernet Sauvignon-based red. From bottle, the 2015 is much bigger and richer than it was from barrel, but the burly, somewhat aggressive tannins remain. Cantelys is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot.

65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot. Owned by Smith Haut Lafitte and situated 3 km south of Smith. Dark crimson. Sweet fruit. Relaxed and gentle. Easy peasy. Good charge of tannins. Not complex but everything is there. Exotic and rich. Lots of drama but nothing in excess. GV (JR)

The 2015 Cantelys emerges from Daniel and Florence Cathiard's sister property in Pessac-Leognan. Savory and earthy in style, with good overall depth, the 2015 is a solid choice for drinking over the next handful of years. Iron, herbs, tobacco and dark stone fruits add nuance to this pleasantly rustic red. The heat and the stress it caused comes through in the wine's mid-weight personality, angular tannins and slightly roasted profile. Cantelys is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot.

The 2015 Cantelys is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot. It has a ripe, showy bouquet that blossoms with blueberry and violet scents, a smudge of boysenberry jam underneath. The palate is sweet on the entry, quite high toned with licorice infusing the slightly grainy-textured dark plum, figgy finish. It has an easy-going charm but respectable structure underneath, so give it a couple of years in bottle.
