65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot. Aged for 12 months in oak (33% new). See also this wine of the week . Still plenty of fruit on the nose, with the prominence that seems typical for 2015. Black fruit, but not in a severe way. Very fine tannins make this entirely drinkable now, with the graphite and dark-chocolate notes that speak of claret country. The finish is very long and dignified, with slow-release primary fruit persisting, as well as spice and leather. A very fine bordeaux, that deserves its well-liked reputation. (RH)

The 2015 Caronne Ste Gemme is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot. It has a well defined, quite composed bouquet that unfurls with blackberry, tobacco and smoke aromas, your classic Haut-Médoc really. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, crisp acidity, quite fresh in the mouth with a brisk, lively finish, graphite lingering on the aftertaste. Excellent. Tasted at the Oenoconseil tasting room in Bordeaux.
Notably dark crimson. Rather meaty and compelling. Some sweet oak on the nose. Middle of the road but a good try. Quite dry on the end. (JR)
The 2015 Caronne Saint Gemme has a pleasant, estuarine-scented bouquet. Think about swigging a decent Cabernet out of mudflats just after the tide has gone out, the tang of salt in the air. The palate is medium-bodied and balanced, but the oak needs to be better integrated and leaves a bit too much powdered cocoa on the finish. Let's hope that this will be absorbed during élevage.
