The 2013 Pinot Noir Rosemary's Vineyard is gorgeous. Pale to medium ruby, it has elegant aromas of sliced mushrooms, tobacco, fragrant earth, saline and woodsmoke with a core of red berries with black fruit hints—this is just beginning to hint at maturity. It’s light to medium-bodied and silky and has great layering of sweet berry fruit and broody/earthy accents. It's grainy and fresh, begging you back in for another sip on the long, layered finish. This is in a lovely spot for drinking right now!

Deep red. A highly perfumed bouquet evokes fresh red fruits, rose pastille and Asian spices, plus a zesty mineral topnote. Juicy, lithe and sharply focused, offering intense raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that become weightier with air. Shows excellent power and focus on the incisive, gently tannic finish, which features notes of allspice and raspberry liqueur.

Notably fresh and mineral. These single-vineyard wines won't be released until Sep 2015. (JR)

At the same level as the Rincon Vineyard in 2013, the beautiful 2013 Pinot Noir Rosemary's Vineyard saw a similar elevage and saw 18 months in 28% new French oak. A bigger, richer effort, it offers terrific black raspberry, raspberry, spice, rose petal and hints of minerality on the nose. Lacking a touch of the precision and focus of the Rincon effort, it makes up for it with medium to full-bodied richness, a rounded, supple, sexy texture and beautiful length. While I don't think it hits the heights of the '12, readers shouldn't miss either of these vintages and it will be great to try these two when they have some maturity.
