Score 89-91/100 · Drink 2018-2027, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Dec 2016

The 2015 Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes is the first vintage where the domaine owns the vines, since up until this vintage the parcel was under métayage. It has a light citrus lemon, sunflower seed and chalky bouquet that just needs to develop more intensity. The palate is well balanced with a good line of acidity, not a complex Meursault, though there is decent length with a touch of wild honey and lemongrass lingering on the aftertaste. Not bad, though I have fonder memories of the 2015 Meursault Charmes last year.

The 2014 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes is more reticent on the nose than the Les Cras, tight-lipped and not as expressive, at least at this premature stage. The palate much more persuasive. It is fresh and vibrant, a touch of sour lemon and orange rind, gaining weight as it arrives at a walnut and smoky finish. It will require 2-3 years in bottle, but you can already see the potential here.
