Pale green-yellow. Laid-back, mineral-driven aromas of white peach and white flowers convey a light touch. Densely packed and penetrating but with nothing heavy about it, boasting outstanding definition to its flavors of white stone fruits, flowers, anise and noble herbs. This wine's inner-mouth aromatic lift is rare for young Batard. A note of chicken-soup reduction comes late. This utterly seamless wine boasts an element of sweetness that makes it deceptively accessible now but I'd rather wait at least five years.

The 2014 Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru, from the Chassagne side from 75-year-old vines, has a precise, understated, mineral-driven bouquet with a distant tang of oyster shell. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, harmonious in the mouth with a keen thread of minerality with a pixelated finish that lingers in the mouth. What a succinct expression of this grand cru from Pierre-Yves.
One large barrel. On the Puligny side. His strategy is to pick early because he tries to avoid heaviness. Just finished malo two weeks ago so very different on the nose. Broad and unfinished. Dense and wild. Wonderful array of flowery flavours. Broad and marzipan and really gorgeous. It will reduce and tighten up but for the moment it’s a great fun. Long. (JR)
(these vines are on the Chassagne side but close to the Puligny line): Pale, bright yellow. Captivating floral lift to the aroma of white peach. Ripe and fine-grained but not at all heavy or outsized; boasts a seamless, glyceral texture but also a light touch. Not a powerful style of Batard but sweet, silky and energetic.
