Le Macchiole's 2012 Paleo Rosso (Cabernet Franc) is rich, ample and dense, with lovely immediacy and plenty of up-front richness. Suave, silky and generous, the 2012 is going to need a few years to develop the full breadth of its aromatics - one of the signatures of Paleo - but it is promising and quite delicious, even at this early stage. The radiant, deeply expressive finish is super-appealing. Over the last few years, the Paleo Rosso has improved dramatically. While Scrio and Messorio are smaller production wines and more expensive, in many ways the Paleo Rosso is making a serious move to establish itself as Le Macchiole's flagship.

The 2012 Paleo (Cabernet Franc) is a spicy and enticing wine with loads of intensity and inner harmony. The great thing about this wine is that beyond the power and brawn; the wine shows a much higher level of elegance and sophistication than you may expect. This is the Le Macchiole magical touch. Pretty floral tones are woven within a dark fabric of ripe fruit, grilled herb and exotic spice. The wine is absolutely seamless and smooth.

The 2012 Paleo Rosso bursts from the glass with gorgeous varietal nuance and detail. Mocha, espresso, raspberry jam and dried flowers are all alive in the glass. A striking, beautifully delineated wine, the 2012 impresses for its balance, crystalline purity and intensity. Expressive, highly perfumed aromatics grace the exquisite finish. The 2012 Paleo is shaping up to be another winner from Le Macchiole.
