(made from vines that are reportedly over 90 years old; aged for three years in new American and French oak): Bright violet color. Deeply pitched, spice-accented black and blue fruit scents show excellent clarity and pick up sexy incense, vanilla and floral qualities with air. Stains the palate with intense boysenberry and cherry-vanilla flavors, showing a suave, seamless texture. The vanilla and spice notes cling tenaciously on the penetrating finish, which is framed by smooth, harmonious tannins.

The 2011 Antiguos Vinedos is produced with Tempranillo from vineyards planted in 1950 that aged for 14 months in oak barrels. Malolactic fermentation was carried out in the barriques. The fruit is ripe, but mixes notes of red and black berries, which are well-integrated with sweet spices and smoke aromas from the barrel. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with plenty of smoky flavors and abundant, fine-grained, slightly dusty tannins that call for more time in the bottle, ending slightly warm. 2011 was a warm year, and it shows in this wine.
