Tasting notes
Opaque ruby. An intensely perfumed bouquet evokes fresh dark berries, cherry compote and violet, while exotic vanilla and peppery spice notes add complexity. Pliant blackberry and boysenberry flavors show good depth, breadth and gentle sweetness plus a touch of smokiness. The spice and blue fruit qualities carry through the finish, which hangs on with very good tenacity and building tannins.

Striking aroma, very much like the bitter orange liqueur you add to Prosecco (Aperol). Lime, clove and a sort of hay bale character that is a bit like Chenin Blanc. Charismatic and individual. (RH)
A solid step up over the Crozes Hermitage, the 2013 Hermitage is a classic, classy effort that exhibits quality notes of pepper, iron, wet rock and sweet dark fruits. It has medium-bodied richness, bright acidity and firm tannin, all suggesting short-term cellaring.
