Score 92/100 · Drink 2016-2028, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Oct 2015

The 2012 Montevertine is a showcase wine for the vintage and the native red grapes used in this part of Tuscany. It presents a clean and polished bouquet with delicate tones of rose petal, wild berry, cassis, spice and lightly grilled Mediterranean herb. Pretty mineral nuances also create focus and sharpness at the rear. The wine offers a terrific mouthfeel with fresh acidity that keeps the palate clean. This was not the easiest vintage, but Montevertine is intact and beautiful nonetheless. It will be fascinating to watch its evolution over the next ten years.

The 2012 Montevertine offers lovely depth and freshness, even if the mid-weight structure is that of a challenging vintage. Red cherry, plum, tobacco, wild flowers and mint open up in a soft Montevertine that should give up its charms relatively early. The 2012 Montevertine is the perfect choice for readers who need something to drink while some of the more important vintages of Montevertine and Pergole Torte age in the cellar. Given the interest that is sure to surround the 2013s, the 2012 should also be relatively easy to pick up. The 2012 is not a great Montevertine, but it sure is delicious right now.
